Important COVID-19 Update
Please see below an important update on Dural Music Centre Lessons and our COVID-SAFE Practices to ensure the safety of our students, teachers and wider families.
NSW Department of Education & Woodwind Instruments
As some of you may be aware, the NSW Department of Education has recently issued a recommendation that GROUP Wind Instrument Tuition, as well as School Bands do not operate at this point in time. This decision was made surrounding concerns specificallty pertaining to Wind instruments played in a group environment. It is important to note that no concerns have been raised surrounding Private Music Tuition for Wind Instruments, and in the same recommendation, Private (One on One) Wind Instrument Tuition has deemed safe to continue.
Despite the fact that this recommendation does not affect any of our existing education programs, as we have been operating exclusively in ‘One on One’ programs for the entirety of 2020, we have put the following additional measures in place to ensure the health and safety of all involved – not just for Woodwind instruments, but for all instruments taught at DMC. These are outlined below.
DMC Studio COVID-SAFE Upgrades
- All studios have been fitted with Air Purifier / Dehumidifiers equipped with HEPA twin-stage filtration.
As well as our A/C units being plumbed to pull in external air, all filters being regularly disinfected, and our studios opened to fresh air as much as possible, these Filtration units utilise HEPA and Charcoal filtering to extract micro-allergens from the ambient air within the studios.
- All studios have had furniture and fixtures minimised to maximise social distancing opportunities within the studios for all instruments.
- We have ordered several Perspex Hygiene Screens specifically for Woodwind Instruments.
These shields are designed to deflect the air emitted from the sound holes of woodwind instruments away from other occupants of the room, to allow any airborne droplets to dissipate safely.
- Studios continue to be disinfected daily. In addition to this, we have procured aerosol disinfectant for all studios that can be used by teachers on common surfaces between lessons.
We understand that some students utilise lesson time in part at DMC to work on school band music. We encourage these students to continue working through school band repertoire in the lesson time, as well as regular lesson content. We will also be offering all DMC students a 20% discount on popular sheet music for the balance of Term 3 to ensure all students have fresh and interesting content to work through in their lessons. Please just ask our shop staff for your discount when purchasing so this can be applied to your purchase.
Other Sanitisation / COVID-SAFE Measures
In addition to the above, we have also completed the following COVID-19 upgrades;
- 99.9% Antibacterial Hand Wash and Single Use Paper Towels installed in both bathrooms and serviced daily.
- Hand Sanitiser Stations installed and serviced daily in the Main Foyer, and both Downstairs and Upstairs Waiting Rooms.
- QR Code Check-in for non-regular visitors to our DMC Studios.
- Increased Cleaning & Disinfecting of all Common Areas within our Studios.
The subject of Masks has been raised with us several times over the course of the last week. At this stage, we are our students to exercise their personal preference here. If you feel more comfortable wearing a face mask while on DMC premises, we encourage you to do so. Likewise, we have extended the same discretion to our teachers, and made single use masks available for them if they require a provided mask.
Despite all of this, we fully understand that some students and their families are more comfortable continuing music education via Zoom.
We have kept all 12 studios fully Zoom equipped, and over the last few weeks have finally been migrated over to the NBN, with a dedicated network established for Zoom lessons. We have also had WIFI extenders installed across our Studio building to ensure better WIFI coverage and more seamless Zoom education.
Please feel absolutely free to use your discretion regarding Face to Face vs Zoom lessons on a weekly basis. As long as we have 24hrs notice, we are happy for students to switch between Zoom and F2F education at their discretion. Simply email email@example.com at least 24hrs prior to your lesson with your change in preference, and we will make the necessary arrangements and notify your teacher accordingly.
Please rest assured that we are continuing to monitor all updates at a State and Federal level regarding COVID-19 best practice, and will continue to act on any advice issued to ensure we are providing an appropriate environment to safely allow the continuity of Music Education for our Students.
